Preparation matters more for bed bugs than for almost anything else. Bed bugs live in seams, folds and joints, often within a few feet of where people sleep, and many treatment plans require access to those places, which is why preparation can materially affect the result. Furniture pressed against a wall, bags stacked around the bed and clothing on the floor put part of the population out of reach.
Follow the instructions you were given
Follow the instructions from the professional who is actually doing the work, not a checklist from the internet. Different treatments require different preparation, and doing the wrong preparation can be worse than doing none. If you have not been given instructions, ask for them.
What preparation is trying to achieve
So the instructions make sense:

- ContainmentBagging and sealing what has been cleaned so it does not get reinfested before treatment happens.
If you cannot physically do it
Say so before the appointment rather than skipping it quietly. This is common and it is not a failing. Mobility, a work schedule, no in-building laundry, or simply not being able to move a bed alone are all real. NYC Health advises building owners to assist residents who cannot move furniture or manage necessary clutter. Telling management in advance lets them decide how to handle it. Telling them only after the visit may mean the treatment could not be completed as planned.
